Memorial Day

The day was spent quietly at home until we left to attend the memorial celebration at the Oddfellows Cemetary in Westlake, TX - The Sons of Union Veterans were participating (along with some re-enactors) in the dedication and unveiling of the headstones of two Civil War veterans who had been identified as having been interred there - it was a clear, hot day and the whole thing had a nice, small-town feel to it...

It was nice to see both sides represented by the re-enactors with their artillary:

The speeches were long (but heart-felt)...

The bicycle parade was sweet...

The Boy Scouts were professional and "Taps" was poignant (especially since Pvt. Johnson was leaving for Advanced Infantry Training this week...)...

It was great to have such a nice group of the SUV there and it's nice that the headstones have been put in place...

All in all...a nice memorial to those who have fallen in battle...

Latest visitors...

Fortunately, they (all 4 of them) were only passing through....

Dave grabbed the camera and was able to get some shots of them without having to get too close.  Ah...the joys of living near woods and a creek!

Writing.

Wow.  An entire month since I posted...How could that happen?  Oh, yeah.  Nothing to write about.  Unless you count getting up, going to work, coming home, moving around some stuff in the studio, watching NetFlix while hand-stitching and then going to bed, nothing riviting has happened.

I really admire those people who seem to be able to write every day.  Or write enough separate posts to be able to schedule them so new things appear every couple of days.  But I'm not one to share every little thought in writing; if you're in my presence and you've known me awhile, you know I have very few secrets and am willing to discuss almost anything except religion and politics; and if I think a conversational topic has gone on for too long, I will inform the participants that the subject needs to change...but writing things down? - different story (as it were...).

So - I've been thinking about the purpose of my blog and I guess I'm not going to feel too guilty if new things don't appear regulary and then there will be a swamp of pictures etc.  I started it so I would have a record of my art and pictures from the travels that Dave and I take.  And there will be one central place that our friends and family could see said pictures.

I will admit there are times when I wish I had ANOTHER blog just to rant on but there's enough trash on the net, so I'll just keep my own ravings to myself as they are usually just short-lived frustrations with stupid...and, like Twain said:
So be sure to check back in when you can...who knows?  There might be something new here...I just took a workshop, so who knows what you will see here soon!

Note re March 9th:

There have been about 514 Leap Years since Caesar created it in 45 BC.  Without the extra day every 4 years, March 9th would have been July 28, 2013.

Also, the Mayan calendar did not account for Leap Year.

That means, technically, that the world should have ended 7 months ago.

So now we can stop worrying about the end of the world and get on with our lives.

Whew...what a load off!

My Albany Quilt

What a treasure I gave myself this Quilt Show:

1890 - most likely from the Albany NY area - I am very much looking forward to researching and documenting this lovely and large (over 72" each side...) work (there are dozens of names) - I expect there's a book in it...
