August 10 Congress Opening Ceremonies

The Congress opened with registration at 8:30 with the Opening Ceremony and Prize Giving beginning at 10:00.

I stayed for Howard's lecture on Manx heraldry 

then, after a group of us went to lunch, I went back to the hotel while Dave stayed for the remaining lectures of the day.

August 9 (4) - Evening Reception

For Congress attendees who arrived early, there was a reception in the Tellers' Bar of the Corinthian Club.

for some reason, the Congress historically holds receptions in spaces that are too small for the crowd...

Afterwards, a small group of us had dinner at Jamie Oliver's restaurant -

Jamie has a saying on the wall of his restaurant - Food has ingredients, but ingredients are food.  While my dish was super-healthy (according to the menu), I had limited choices - he seems to be able to not cook without a pepper of some sort.  My allergy, therefore, meant I couldn't eat most of his food...since when does a burger require a pepper mixed into the meat?  I say, Master Chef or not, he needs to be able to provide dishes that do not require a pepper for it to have some flavor.  Sorry.  Ok, rant over.

August 9 (3) Glasgow Day 2 (cont)

After lunch - more sightseeing...

Because the National Pipe and Drum Band competition was being held in George Square, everywhere we went it was like we had a Scottish soundtrack...And at one point I looked up, and I was in the middle of a parade!

Seagulls, like pigeons, have no respect for art...

what a long afternoon - happy to see the hotel!
