New Roof

So it turns out that we needed a new roof - pointed out to us when it began raining in our living room during the last ice storm.  Fortunately the insurance company agreed, so a date was set.

That meant that last Wednesday we had to leave the house and go amuse ourselves for the majority of the day.  Would have been easier if Dave had been more mobile but probably saved us a great deal of money since we couldn't go strolling through antique malls!

We dropped the dog off at Doggy Day Care -
And then we tootled off for breakfast.
After that, we tried a little retail therapy so Dave could try out his latest mode of transportation...
We went several places but this was the only picture I took of that portion of the day.

We stopped by the house to check on progress...
Yep - work was occurring...

Then it was time for Dave's physical therapy appointment -
trying to pick up marbles with his toes...
not his favorite exercise!
Then it was time for lunch...Yummm!

We still had hours to kill after lunch, so we headed over to Fort Worth to Hal's house since he needed Dave's signature on some Sons of Union Veterans paperwork...

When we got back to the house, work was finishing up, so off we went to pick up the dog...when we got back, they were finished and gone!
Oh well - not the most exciting of days, but we got a few errands run and ate two meals out!

And it was a beautiful Spring day!

150 years

Today marks the 150th anniversary of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln (he didn't die until the next day).  As such, last Sunday, Dave participated in the Commemoration Ceremony sponsored by a different Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW).
There were formations...
General James J. Byrne Camp 1 of the SUVCW was represented (Dave is currently Camp Commander)

There were speeches, including one by Dave...
These, of course, were occasionally paused due to air traffic...
There was the presentation of the memorial wreath at the memorial to the Grand Army of the Republic...
As well as a rifle salute...
Then more speeches...
Followed by Taps...
and ending with a Group Picture...
(Dave is standing behind the woman in the blue skirt on the right)
All in all, a nice memorial and not too long.  And the rain held off until after everyone was safely home.
