Well-rounded Weekend

OK - I'll admit to being the heavy - I put a timelimit on how long we can work in the bathroom to rennovate it - this is a good project and if we overextend ourselves we will end up hating it. So we worked a few hours on Saturday and I banned any work in there today - which allowed us both to catch up on other areas of interest. Dave has been working in his room on his lectures and other things heraldic, and I've done some stitching and some dyeing.
And now I'm sitting on the back steps blogging, enjoying the weather, and watching my fabric dry - with the occassional help of Miss Roxie...
And I do believe Spring is making itself shown! There are signs all over the yard...
what a nice weekend...

Hard week...

Pretty sad - when you've had such a hard week at work that you are actually looking forward to going home and scraping off wallpaper paste! The Appleton's newest motto: It'll be so pretty when it's finished.

Carpet - gone!

Toilet moved out. Carpet and baseboards gone. HUGE possibility of having to replace the subflooring. Good thing Dave has tools!

Bye-Bye Sink!

It took Dave (poor thing) a couple of hours to remove the sink - I could only help by putting all of my weight on the faucet while he hacksawed the faucet pipes (they were soldered) - and then get out of his way when (with his trusty sledgehammer and crowbar) he broke apart the cabinet. What this really means is that when everything is finished, we'll have to have our trusty Real Plumber-Guy install the sink because it needs new pipes. I can see how remodeling could strain a relationship...I mostly stayed out of his way...I could hear him talking under there, but when I realized he was talking to the sink (and not nicely, may I add) I went into the other room where I was close-by if needed but out of the line of fire...I helped to remove the cabinet pieces from the room as he disassembled it so they could be placed in the garage for future disposal. Next up - carpet removal (I can hardly wait....who puts carpet in their bathroom? ewwww.)

Shrimp Toast and Cappuccino

No - it's not some weird lunch - it's the colors of our guest bathroom. Or, rather, what the colors will be in our guest bathroom. It was Kelly Green...ugh. But demolition has begun - the big mirror and the towel racks/toilet paper rack have been uninstalled, most of the wallpaper is down and the ceiling has been scraped to get all of the bubbly plaster bits off. Tonight we hope to take out the toilet and the sink/cabinet. Tomorrow the carpet and the light fixture...I think it will look lovely when finished. Dave is documenting all of the activity - he even has a picture of me in masks and goggles scraping the ceiling...I'm sure it's a lovely, flattering shot....not. So we've really done our part for the economy, while improving our living space. Will keep you posted on the progress!
